Benidorm Car Hire

The word Benidorm is almost synonymous with mass tourism and the reputation it has for being a buzzing holiday location has been further enhanced by various British programmes that centre around ex-pat life on the Spanish costas.

Located on the Costa Blanca on the east coast of Spain, Benidorm is in the province of Alicante within the region of Valencia and is about 59km to Alicante airport which would take approximately 50 minutes in the car along the N-332 road that runs parallel to the coastline.

Throughout the year Benidorm has a population of 64,956 people but throughout the summer months the population swells to around half a million people as it is one of the most well known and popular tourist destinations in all of Spain.

Such is the influx of tourists from all over Europe, but especially the UK, that the Spanish language almost passes over Benidorm as there are whole communities of foreign nations that also live in the town and menus in restaurants around Benidorm are almost devoid of anything Spanish. Benidorm is in fact the town with the highest immigrant population in all of Spain!

Tourism in Benidorm really took off in the 1960s and along with it came the high rise buildings, the all night bars and the endless activities and things to do along the sea front as it offers a great climate all year round, value for money and vast golden beaches.

As would be expected, the economy in and around Benidorm is based largely on the tourist industry and has a reputation for being a cheap and cheery and wild package holiday destination popular with particularly the younger generation looking for a fun week in the sun. The result leads to very busy beaches over the summer.

In the last few years the tourism manager for Benidorm has been concentrating on attracting a more upmarket clientele with increased concerts being put on in town as well as the construction of more 4 and 5 star hotels and a drive to get more tourists to the other highlights of the area including the nature parks including the Terra Natura and Terra Mitica parks as well as the Aqualandia water park, the largest water park in Europe.

All of these parks provide intense adrenaline filled days out for all the family with attractions, shows, animals and more than enough to keep the kids entertained for the whole day.

Located 2km off the coast from Benidorm is Benidorm Island, a largely uninhabited island and wildlife haven. There are many tour operators offering trips over to Benidorm Island and you can even pop over on a catamaran with a viewing deck to make the most of your marine life watching.

To get out of town and experience some of the life around Benidorm, visit the Canelobre caves, 24km north of Alicante, a short drive from Benidorm and a popular underground chamber open all year round. There are also breath-taking natural waterfalls, the Algar Falls located in the mountains behind Altea where you can take a dip in the gorgeous clear waters of the mountain pools.

Make sure you don't miss out by having all of your driving documents to hand before you get on the plane. Even if you don't have your driving license yet, you can always look up intensive local courses on the net such as week long driving courses Surrey to make sure you have experience and a license before you go on your holiday.
