Mallorca Car Hire

Majorca or Mallorca as it is spelled in Spanish, is located in the Mediterranean Sea and is the largest of the Balearic Islands which also include Ibiza, Formentera and Minorca.

Over the years Majorca has also become synonymous with mass tourism and attracts thousands of visitors every year, swelling the population of 814,275 (2007) of whom just under half reside in the island’s capital, Palma.

Majorca has coastline of over 550km and the beautiful beaches have to be the prime attraction for the island and it is easy to see how Majorca has become one of the top holiday destinations for the UK sun-seeking holiday makers. The top destinations on the island include the capital Palma, Alcudia in the north, Cala D’Or, Puerto Pollensa, Palma Nova and perhaps the “English” capital: Magalluf, or Magaluf. With a buzzing nightlife, Magalluf tends to attract a large number of hen parties and stag dos and anyone between the ages of 18-30 whose holiday objective is to visit as many pubs, bars and clubs as possible and then not remember most of them the next day.

With 2 mountainous regions to the north-west side of the island, Majorca has varied landscape offering a range of sceneries, varying temperatures across the island and many different tourist enclaves each with distinct characters and different things to do and see.

Palma Airport is the main airport for Majorca and is so busy during peak seasons that it is actually the 3rd busiest airport for all of Spain. Palma is a short drive from the airport into the city and with a busy port, is a very culturally diverse capital with a wealth of things to do and see to match. For a day of history and culture, visit the La Seu cathedral in the old town area of the city. Dating from the 1300s, the cathedral is dedicated to the patron saint of the island, Saint Sebastian and construction began after the Catalan conquest in the year 1229. As of the largest Catholic cathedrals in the world, La Seu is an impressive building and well worth a visit. There is also the Almudaina palace and from Roman times it was used by the Muslim governors as a residence.

There is such a thriving tourist economy in Palma that it is also a shopper’s delight and when you find the time to drag yourself away from the beaches you will find markets, designer stores and boutiques selling the latest in high fashion and designer suits.

For the kids there is always the Aqualand water Fun Park located just 5 minutes from the city centre or a day underground visiting the many caves complete with underground lakes around the island.

With so much to see and do in a concentrated area, car rental in Majorca is the most obvious way to get around and get to do everything at your own pace. A quick search for our Majorca car hire or even Mallorca car hire will give you the best and cheapest car hire deals available right now
